It is with great pride that (we) present this annual report for the year April 2023 – March 2024, reflecting on our achievements and the challenges we have overcome. HSFA has shown remarkable resilience and adaptability in a year marked by significant transitions and strategic growth.

Our unwavering mission to provide exemplary services, care and a nurturing environment for our residents continues to guide our efforts, and I am delighted in the progress and achievements we have made over the past year.

Being part of this remarkable organisation and contributing to its growth and resilience is an honour. Witnessing HSFA become stronger and more robust each year is truly gratifying. We strive to add value to the lives of our residents and to our broader community.

The strength of HSFA lies in the deep roots it has established within the community. These relationships, forged over generations, extend beyond our residents to their families, community members, and supporters. Our partnerships with local schools, community organisations, and various religious denominations have significantly enriched our residents’ lives through diverse activities and comprehensive support services.

Our volunteers have been instrumental in enhancing the well-being of our residents. Their dedication significantly contributes to our residents’ overall happiness and health.

Despite the inherent challenges of running a non-profit organisation, we have demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability. Our financial performance has remained stable, thanks to the unwavering support of our donors and partners. This stability has allowed us to continue providing high-quality care and services to our residents.

Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to our mission and are excited about the opportunities to further innovate and improve our services. We will continue to foster community engagement and strive for excellence in care, ensuring that our residents receive the best possible support.

We are proud to have reviewed our vision, mission, and core values this year. These reflect our renewed purpose and better align our departments with our strategic goals. This review has invigorated our team and reaffirmed our commitment to providing high-quality care and fostering a supportive community for our residents.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff, compassionate volunteers, loyal partners, and generous donors. Together, we are making a significant difference in the lives of the older person and building a stronger, more caring community.

Mandela Day Smiles and Snuggles

Mandela Day Smiles and Snuggles

There were lots of Mandela Day smiles at the HSFA today! The blankets and food received from our community as well as from the Keep Cape Town Warm Campaign were distributed to our units at our HSFA Service Centre at Garden Village as well as to those residents with no financial or family support at our Frail Care and Assisted Living units. Thank you again The Community Chest of the Western Cape and GOOD HOPE FM for choosing the Helderberg Society for the Aged as a beneficiary. #MandelaDay2024

“The best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.” — Andy Rooney.

“The best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.” — Andy Rooney.

This quote rings true for the children at The Smart Hub in Macassar, who recently enjoyed the wisdom and storytelling from some of our special HSFA residents. These representatives (Ellen, Louise and Adele) from our ever-growing “HSFA Projects Team” brought bags filled with beautifully knitted blankets, jerseys, beanies, and teddies, all lovingly crafted by our residents, to the school. Ellen told an animated version of Little Red Riding Hood which had all the kids hanging on to every word!
Massive thanks to Dr. Bryony May and her volunteers at Out the Box NPO for creating a wonderful educational centre for these children, the Little Smarties, achieving a remarkable transformation in just two years. Our residents from HSFA Projects recently had the pleasure of attending a presentation by Bryony on the various programs being implemented by Out of Box and were instantly inspired to get involved and contribute their skills.
Community Chest warms Cape Town

Community Chest warms Cape Town

Thank you so much, The Community Chest of the Western Cape and GOOD HOPE FMGOOD HOPE FM, for choosing the Helderberg Society for the Aged as a beneficiary for the Good Hope FM Keep Cape Town Warm event! The Campaign had collected over 1,500 blankets and nearly 6,000 non-perishable food items! The handover ceremony was a truly inspiring experience, filled with the ‘warm hearts’ of dedicated NPOs and generous donors coming together for a common cause. The blankets and food cans will certainly benefit many of our elderly residents who have no family or financial support. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=977432300514440
