Recently our residents from our Assisted Living Units, Silver Oaks Lodge and Robari Lodge were visited by two talented musicians Kai Lehmensiek and Alex Moon who gave a magical piano performance. The concert was enjoyed by all! Thank you Lai and Alex.

HSFA Drama Club’s Road to Mecca

HSFA Drama Club’s Road to Mecca

The HSFA’s Drama Club (made up of enthusiastic residents of the HSFA) enjoyed the powerful classic South African Drama – ‘The Road to Mecca’ by Athol Fugard at The Playhouse Theatre on Sunday. Definitely a few tears were shed by the audience with some of the play’s resonating themes. The elaborate stage set was very impressive. Thanks to the team and excellent actors from The Playhouse.

Jars of Hope from the HSFA

Jars of Hope from the HSFA

The Helderberg Society For the Aged’s residents from Assisted Living and some Independent Units all donated ingredients and their time to pack JARS OF HOPE as a Mandela Day initiative.  The HSFA, (although a ‘Not-for-Profit-Organisation’ itself), has a team of dynamic residents and staff who like to give back to their communities and charities.  Hundreds of “Jars of Hope” were provided to charities supported by Together Against Covid, Masincedane, as well as to HSFA’s own Garden Village Senior Service Centre.  Note all HSFA activities are done within the limits of safe Covid protocols

Celebrations on Mandela Day

Celebrations on Mandela Day

The Helderberg Society For the Aged’s residents from Assisted Living (Silver Oaks Lodge and Robari Lodge), Frailcare (Mountview and Support Centre) and some Independent Units (Vonke House and Swannack Gardens), enjoyed a South African heartwarming Welcome-Welkom,-Wamkelekile at our SA themed luncheons this month. We were reminded, despite our country’s recent troubles, how South Africans do stand together and give back to their communities … as well as enjoy a bietjie potjie, sherry and dans!! Thank you GERATEC for serving South African favourites – potjies, melktert, samp and beans, vetkoek and more…
Note resident’s faces have been blurred out for Personal Protection of Privacy (POPI Act). Many photos were taken at all of the events. Should residents or family of resident’s wish to receive the photos, please contact your unit manager and they will be sent to you. Beach parties at the HSFA

HSFA hosted a series of enjoyable (but Covid regulated) luncheons for their Assisted Living (Silver Oaks Lodge and Robari Lodge), Frailcare (Mountview and Support Centre) and some Independent Units (Vonke House and Swannack Gardens) residents to raise awareness regarding this campaign. The lunches had a beach theme staff and residents were encouraged to dress up in turquoise or beach gear and feel the sand between their toes, whilst sipping on turquoise cocktails and listening to tunes like ‘Kokomo’, ‘Under the Boardwalk’ and the like! Images of turquoise oceans were projected on the walls to transport the residents to favourite beach memories and Geratec served delicious a seafood cocktails, beach burgers and turquoise-coloured desserts. On 15th June – World Elderly Abuse Awareness Day –HSFA staff wore a turquoise ribbon in support of the “Turn Turquoise for the Elderly” National Campaign.
