Drama Workshops for HSFA

Drama Workshops for HSFA

March and April were months full of drama at the HSFA! So when our residents were saying “Break a Leg” this did not mean that next step meant a hip or knee replacement, but rather a moment of glory on stage!!
All units (Independent Living, Assisted Living and Frailcare) were invited to join drama workshops as presented by two lovely ladies, Coleen van Staden and Celia Musikanth from Circle Productions Cape Town . Howls of laughter and impassioned shouting was heard in the halls of the units with our residents acting out Shakespeare’s most rude lines (sometimes translated into Afrikaans!) Movement and mime were practiced, and character sketches as well as poems were rolled out. Thank you to the lovely drama teachers who showed us how many theatrical players, tuneful singers, and drama queens we actually have at the HSFA! Watch this space – HSFA HAS TALENT will be back with a vengeance!
World Alzheimer’s Day 2021

World Alzheimer’s Day 2021

“Dementia is a disease of the brain, not of the Soul”. Today, 21 September 2021, the world acknowledges World Alzheimer’s Day with the goal of raising awareness of the disease, common symptoms, and risk factors. This day raises awareness of the cause and severity of Alzheimer’s disease, and it is observed throughout the month in certain countries. Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative brain condition that gradually deteriorates memory and cognitive abilities, among other things. It is the most frequent cause of dementia in older individuals. Simple act of kindness

Simple act of kindness

Joshua Buchweitz, a Grade 7 scholar from Beaumont Primary School , showed how a simple act of kindness can go a long way. Joshua used his own savings and raised money from friends, neighbours and family to purchase a generous hamper of toiletries and treats for the residents (those who do not have family support) of the Support Center of the HSFA. When asked why he chose the HSFA as his retirement group as his beneficiary, he explained that his lovely granny Elana Kriedemann who recently retired from at the HSFA, told him that the HSFA is a special place, and she also explained that some residents needed some extra support and that they depend on the community for help. Thank you Joshua for your thoughtfulness, kindness and leadership – you are a true gentlemen. Your lovely granny can certainly be proud of you.
The HSFA’s fund is called the Sunbird project. Click here for further information should you also wish to donate. https://hsfa.org.za/get-involved/donate/
Jars of Hope from the HSFA

Jars of Hope from the HSFA

The Helderberg Society For the Aged’s residents from Assisted Living and some Independent Units all donated ingredients and their time to pack JARS OF HOPE as a Mandela Day initiative.  The HSFA, (although a ‘Not-for-Profit-Organisation’ itself), has a team of dynamic residents and staff who like to give back to their communities and charities.  Hundreds of “Jars of Hope” were provided to charities supported by Together Against Covid, Masincedane, as well as to HSFA’s own Garden Village Senior Service Centre.  Note all HSFA activities are done within the limits of safe Covid protocols
