Beaumont Primary School have always had a special relationship with the HSFA and frequent our halls singing in concerts or providing us with flowers. Beaumont provided the HSFA beautiful Christmas Gift Bags full of toiletries and treats. All 620 residents also received BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED cards from the pupils of Beaumont! The gift bags were delivered to those residents who have no family and/or financial support, and the recipients were very grateful for this generosity. Thank you to all the Beaumont families, the Head Boys and Head Girls (Nathan Nissen, Jamie Wege, Klara Korber and Nina van Reenen) as well as Dez Struwig who manages the programme and Dwain Brown, the new Headmaster of Beaumont Primary. It is hard to describe the delight on the faces of our residents who received the gifts. Thank you!
AND THE OSCAR GOES TO………. It was Oscars night at the HSFA for Mountview Frailcare residents and WHAT a glamorous affair it was! The ladies and gents turned up in their finery in style, and after receiving their much deserved Oscar’s, were cheered on by their fans, families and the Paparazzi down the VIP red carpet, and whisked into a sparkling room of movie glitz and fame! The movie stars enjoyed a photo session, gourmet servings of food and delicious wine. Thanks goes to the delightful hosts of the day Actress Louisa and Actor Vuyani as well as fabulous Nabilah Ebrahim. Note faces are blurred out due to the POPI Act. All residents will receive their photos.
At our Long Service Awards lunch, the HSFA Board and management team recognised the valuable contributions that several of our employees have made to our organisation. The HSFA staff is the core of our organisation and their passion for helping our residents is what makes a difference every day. The awards for 10 years went to Caroline Godfrey, Nombuyiselo Rawusana, Nokuthula Gana and Emma Bailey all from Support Centre and the awards for 15 years went to Freddie Williams from the Facilities Department as well as Xoliswa Fekade, Noluvo Mdemka and Daphne Claasen from the Support Centre. The awards for 20 years went to Lionel Wilson from Human Resources Department, Desire Booysen from Support Centre and Eureka Haefele from Independent Living. Sara Lintnaar from Mountview, who was awarded the certificate for 35 special years of service, gave a beautiful speech and Georgina Arone from the Support Centre, who made the 40-year milestone, was sadly absent but celebrated all the same! Thank you all for your loyalty and dedication to the wellbeing of our residents.
It is so moving to watch our resident’s faces light up as a beautiful dog comes with a waggy tail through the lounges! A lovely volunteer Danette Viljoen and her gentle furry beauty named Rue, from Pets As Therapy visited our Frail and Dementia Units. Those residents (obviously having happy memories of owing their own dogs in their lives), showed so much excitement and joy, cuddling or stroking the dog’s soft fur; some from a deep motionless sleep, awoke with a smile and movement! One must never forget that reminders of happy life memories is so important to the frail aged.
The HSFA’s Drama Club (made up of enthusiastic residents of the HSFA) enjoyed the powerful classic South African Drama – ‘The Road to Mecca’ by Athol Fugard at The Playhouse Theatre on Sunday. Definitely a few tears were shed by the audience with some of the play’s resonating themes. The elaborate stage set was very impressive. Thanks to the team and excellent actors from The Playhouse.
