And the Oscar goes to…

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO………. It was Oscars night at the HSFA for Mountview Frailcare residents  and WHAT a glamorous affair it was! The ladies and gents turned up in their finery in style, and after receiving their much deserved Oscar’s, were cheered on by their fans, families and the Paparazzi down the VIP red carpet, and whisked into a sparkling room of movie glitz and fame! The movie stars enjoyed a photo session, gourmet servings of food and delicious wine. Thanks goes to the delightful hosts of the day Actress Louisa and Actor Vuyani as well as fabulous Nabilah Ebrahim. Note faces are blurred out due to the POPI Act. All residents will receive their photos.

Pet as Therapy

Pet as Therapy

It is so moving to watch our resident’s faces light up as a beautiful dog comes with a waggy tail through the lounges! A lovely volunteer Danette Viljoen and her gentle furry beauty named Rue, from Pets As Therapy visited our Frail and Dementia Units. Those residents (obviously having happy memories of owing their own dogs in their lives), showed so much excitement and joy, cuddling or stroking the dog’s soft fur; some from a deep motionless sleep, awoke with a smile and movement! One must never forget that reminders of happy life memories is so important to the frail aged.

Music makes the world go round.

Music makes the world go round.

Recently our residents from our Assisted Living Units, Silver Oaks Lodge and Robari Lodge were visited by two talented musicians Kai Lehmensiek and Alex Moon who gave a magical piano performance. The concert was enjoyed by all! Thank you Lai and Alex.

Oasis Collaboration builds skills

Oasis Collaboration builds skills

The HSFA is a firm believer in skills and capability development of our own staff and of future carers, in order to offer the best service to our residents and the elderly community. The HSFA and OASIS Training Centre – PTY Ltd have collaborated allowing their training centre students an opportunity to do the practical part of their course at the HSFA. OASIS students were placed at the HSFA to job-shadow our carers, as part of their 6-week practical training, during their 3-month course. These students were allocated shifts, and job-shadowed and learnt practical caring with our HSFA carers. As part of the practical training, they had to learn specific caring tasks, as per their curriculum, in order to graduate. We are proud to laud the hardworking students of the first program with us at their graduation, and now welcome a new set of students in the second!
