World Alzheimer’s Day 2021

“Dementia is a disease of the brain, not of the Soul”. Today, 21 September 2021, the world acknowledges World Alzheimer’s Day with the goal of raising awareness of the disease, common symptoms, and risk factors. This day raises awareness of the cause and severity of Alzheimer’s disease, and it is observed throughout the month in certain countries. Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative brain condition that gradually deteriorates memory and cognitive abilities, among other things. It is the most frequent cause of dementia in older individuals. World Alzheimer’s Day

World Alzheimer’s Day

World Alzheimer’s Day is on the 21 September each year to raise awareness and challenge the stigma that surrounds the disease. The Helderberg Society For the Aged has a Dementia care unit in our Support Centre with a specialised nursing team available 24/7. Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease, where dementia symptoms gradually worsen over a number of years. In its early stages, memory loss is mild, but with late-stage Alzheimer’s, individuals lose the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to their environment.
