At Helderberg Society for the Aged (HSFA), we believe that ongoing staff training is essential to providing safe, compassionate and dignified care for our residents.

Our caregivers recently attended a focused Falls Prevention Training session, presented by HSFA’s Occupational Therapist, Nellie Botha. The training was aimed at strengthening the caregiver’s knowledge and practical skills in identifying, preventing and managing fall risks within the frail care environment.

The training covered important topics such as:
✅ Recognizing medical and physical risk factors
✅ Preventing falls during mobility, transfers and toileting
✅ Identifying environmental hazards in bedrooms and bathrooms
✅ Ensuring walking aids, call bells and personal items are within easy reach
✅ Promoting safe mobility, active ageing and independence
✅ Creating a culture where falls prevention is everyone’s responsibility

Caregivers also participated in practical learning activities using real-life care scenarios, helping them apply falls prevention principles in everyday situations.

Falls are not an inevitable part of ageing. With awareness, teamwork and proactive care, many falls can be prevented — helping our residents remain safe, confident and as independent as possible.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated caregivers for their commitment to continuous learning and resident safety.
