HSFA’s Commitment to Palliative Care

HSFA’s Commitment to Palliative Care

Hospice Week in 2025 is from May 4th to May 10th. This is an annual celebration of hospice and palliative care services, recognising the work of professionals and volunteers. It is a week to celebrate the achievements of hospice and palliative care programs, highlight partnerships, and raise awareness about the importance of palliative care. Palliative care is all about providing relief from the symptoms and stress of serious illness, aiming to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families.
At HSFA, our Kiewiet unit offers palliative and respite care, including:
– 24-hour nursing care in a safe and caring environment
– Furnished temporary accommodation
– All meals and teas
– Emergency call buttons
– Activities and entertainment
– Laundry and housekeeping services
– Retirement Village Package DSTV
We’re committed to compassionate care, ensuring our residents get the support they need during these times. “Providing palliative care is not just about medical support; it’s about offering comfort and dignity to our residents during their most vulnerable moments.”, Nazelle Speelman, Nursing Care Manager at HSFA.
The HSFA also supports and partners with Helderberg Hospice and acknowledges what an important role they have in our community.

Celebrating our Centenarian!

What a joy it is to celebrate a centenarian! Mr. Colin Truelove turned 100 on February 14th—his name and birthdate say it all! He embodies love and happiness. Surrounded by many friends, he enjoyed a wonderful party with delicious cakes and treats generously donated by Blue Crane. Happy Birthday, sir! You are an inspiration with your interesting stories, naughty smile and happy energy!

HSFA Upskills more carers – APCC Palliative Care Course

We are incredibly proud to announce that 10 of our caregivers have successfully completed their Introduction to Palliative Care course with APCC! 🎉 Hosted by Helderberg Hospice, this training equipped them with essential skills to provide compassionate and specialized care to our residents. A huge shoutout to Sr. Thandi, who put them through their ranks and ensured they excelled in both their exam and practical assessments!
This training was made possible thanks to a generous donation received by Helderberg Training Centre, which we are utilising to upskill our employees and enhance the quality of care we provide.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in this journey—together, we are making a real difference! 💙
The team that benefitted: Bernadette Wessels, Cindy Wessels, Vuyokazi Vavi, Bongiwe Combo, Nombeko Mqanduli, Roche Cloete, Patience Ntsholo, Eunice Ntsholo, Monique Visagie and Deidre Samuels
